I started playing guitar at the age of 6. I still remember my very first guitar, it was a Light Blue Telstar Stratocaster-style electric guitar that my mom and dad bought for me that Christmas. Man, I loved that guitar! I still remember the first chord I learned. It was the G chord. There was talent on both sides of my family, but I still give God all the Glory and credit for my talent. I couldn’t have done any of it without His instruction and help. I remember playing that guitar for a good long while. Some years later, I got interested and wanted to play the bass guitar. I didn’t have one and we really couldn’t afford one either. My dad did the next best thing, he converted my old electric guitar into a bass guitar. I started learning how to play that bass and kept that same guitar for a long time. Sometime after that, I began to get interested in pedal steel. I recall there was a brother in our church who played a double-neck Sho-Bud steel guitar and he was good, real good. He saw that I was interested and started teaching me, and soon my dad bought me a student model Deckly brand steel guitar. Once again God began to bless me and "send down talent" and not too long afterward I was playing with a band. I played that little steel for a good long while until my dad decided to buy a much better one. I couldn't believe it, he bought me an MSA single neck 10 string with 3-floor pedals and two knee levers. Man, that thing was beautiful.
Some years later, the time had past and somehow I got a Candy apple red Tokai Stratocaster. Funny thing, I still can’t remember how I got it, but I really liked it. That was the guitar I first played when I started touring with The Dalton Gang.
Down through the years I have had other guitars, but the ones I own now are truly my favorites. And, I'd like to say God has really blessed me, and yes, as they say...More than I deserve!
I now own several guitars, da USA Fender Telecaster (since 2003), a USA Fender Stratocaster (since March 2020), a MIM Fender Stratocaster (for about 2 years now), an Epiphone Les Paul (since about 2016), a Takamine acoustic guitar (since about 2016), and an Ibanez BTB 5-string Bass guitar (for a little over 2 years). I did own a 1988 Gibson ES175 Hollow body electric guitar, it previously belonged to my dad, and I inherited it after he passed away. Although I loved that guitar for its tone and playability, I could never get used to that floating bridge, so I sold it back a few years ago.
I enjoyed picking these three Fenders on the New Album "The Lord Will Provide" with Dan Looper and Mountain Sound, we definitely had a blast in the studio. As you listen, I hope you can feel the spirit and love we poured into each song through our talents and witness.
Below I wanted to share some rare photos of my gear, Hopefully, you will enjoy looking through my "Guitar Rack and Gear" below.
